Understanding of BOM weather forecast
  • alternative information sources

Perform assisted rescue (2 different methods)
  • preferred club method is bow to stern rescue
  • 1 other method for example scoop, assisted cowboy, UK between boat method

Demonstrate low bracing skills
  • in breaking surf
  • demonstrated on both sides

Demonstrate turning skills
  • consistent demonstration on numerous occasions

Tow
  • understand the Club's towing template
  • experience towing
  • demonstrate handover procedure, attaching and terminating the tow
  • experience being towed - how boat behaves under tow

Launch and land through 0.5 m surf
  • beach master signals
  • roles and responsibilities
  • demonstrate landing and launching

Paddle at 5km/hr for 90 minutes
  • typical paddling conditions
  • average speed over head and tail wind

Two trips of 15km or longer
  • eg Garden Island causeway to Penguin island return

Participate in an overnight kayak/camping trip
  • 1 night introduction trip
  • weight distribution in boat
  • water
  • food/cooking
  • shelter
  • sleeping
  • demonstrate understanding of minimal environmental impact
